BERGEN!
Our city is known for producing musicians of international calibre – from Edvard Grieg to Lars Vaular and Aurora.
But what about the singer-songwriters? Well, they’ve been hiding away in basements, with the occasional trip up to the attic to dust off old emotions and turn them into lyrics.
Now they’ve all taken a social pill, put on their sunglasses, and are ready to step out into the evening light after their summer hibernation – to show Bergen that the new generation can also reflect. And what better place to do that than our grand living room – Statsraaden Bar.
MATHIAS LANGELAND:
Mathias Langeland is a 22-year-old songwriter blending folk with Bergen street pop. He draws inspiration from experimental songwriters like Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, John Martyn, St. Thomas, and Bon Iver.
Lyrics take centre stage in Mathias’s work, exploring existential questions, the sea, sailboats, whales, oranges, and coffee animals.
ADEM KOLLEN:
Adem is the vocalist and songwriter in the band Romskip and plays organ/guitar in The Hiveminds. His songs stem from a dark and somber period marked by death, grief, sleet, rain, alcohol, and loneliness. His inspiration comes close to home, from artists such as Joel Alme, Stefan Missios, and Jan Eggum.
He’s currently working on a solo album scheduled for release sometime before 2035 – so this is a golden opportunity to experience something few others will.
BRAGE STEIMLER:
Who is Brage Steimler? A quick Google search reveals that he plays in a band called Febersyn. I just listened to their album Får i ulveklær a hundred times while writing this description – and I highly recommend you do the same.
Brage’s solo project is truly worth catching. With catchy melodies, witty and humorous lyrics, and great energy, this is something special. Like Adem, these songs probably won’t appear on Spotify anytime soon, so don’t miss your chance to experience them live.
