Draumkvedet describes Olav Åsteson's dreams between Christmas Eve and Epiphany (6 January). It depicts the soul's journey through the underworld across various landscapes: the crossing of the bridge to the realm of the dead/Gjallarbrui, through the realm of the dead to paradise and through purgatory. There he meets the Devil/Grutte Gråskjegg and the archangel Michael/Sante Sålemikkjel. Finally come beatitudes and blessings through making wise choices in life.
