Eivind Aarset has undoubtedly succeeded in creating his own distinctive and unmistakable musical identity, marked by a wide dynamic range. One moment he may play the most delicate guitar tones, and the next unleash raw, nerve-filled guitar noise. He possesses an exceptional ear for listening and for playing only what the music truly calls for. At the same time, he has a strong drive to explore different facets of music, a curiosity that over the years has opened doors to collaborations with artists such as Jon Hassell, Marilyn Mazur, Dhafer Youssef, Andy Sheppard, Laurie Anderson and Bill Laswell.
After having been one of Norway’s busiest session musicians, he gained wider recognition beyond Norway through his collaboration with Nils Petter Molvær. He made his solo debut with the album “Électronique Noire” in 1998, and since then has released a long series of strong albums under his own name on both ECM and Jazzland, in addition to contributing to numerous recordings with some of the most exciting names in jazz.
