«Seeing is Forgetting» is a rather fitting title for an album about being present.
Elori Saxl and Henry Solomon recorded «Seeing is Forgetting» over a few nights in Los Angeles, without any finished songs. Saxl sat behind her analogue synths, Solomon alternated between baritone saxophone and bass clarinet, and let intuition and the encounter between the instruments decide where the music would go.
The result is an unusually beautiful record somewhere between American jazz, New York minimalism, ambient and pop. Pitchfork called the result «airily sublime», and wrote that one of the most exciting things about the record is that you cannot always hear where the synths end and the wind instruments begin. That is a pretty precise description. This is an album we have genuinely fallen in love with, and that has been on repeat in the office.
Saxl we know from her combination of electronics, field recordings and acoustic instruments. Solomon you may know without realising it: his saxophone appears on recordings with among others Vampire Weekend, HAIM, Paramore and Miley Cyrus.
On «Seeing is Forgetting» however it is just the two of them. Warm synths, breath, repetitions and melodies that appear and disappear again. Music made in the moment, and that benefits greatly from being heard in the same way.
Perfect for a dark November evening at Østre.
