Zum Hauptinhalt

Mesak is a Finnish composer and live performer. When he gets people dancing, the keywords are electro and acid, performed on machines. His real name is Tatu Metsätähti. His career spans more than two decades, and he has been active in some of the most interesting corners of the Finnish music scene, from clubs to galleries, both in various groups and as a solo artist.

As a solo artist, Mesak’s discography is extensive, with releases on labels such as Klakson, Orson Records and Dum Records. He is perhaps best known as one half of the influential electro duo Velcro Fastener, where he, together with Imatran Voima, helped define the Finnish electro sound in the early 2000s. He was also a key figure in the Scandinavian skweee movement, which he co-founded alongside, among others, Perttu Häkkinen. Tatu has had a long-standing connection with Bergen. In 2004 he performed with Velcro Fastener at the Ekkofestivalen, and since then he has released more than a dozen recordings with Erlend Øye through the Star You Star-Me project. More recently, Mesak has been active in the worldbeat avant-pop project Ya Tosiba, together with Azerbaijani singer Zuzu Zakaria.

He is also the founder of the deeply underground-oriented record labels Huge Bass and Harmönia Records, through which he releases both his own music and work by other artists.
