Emelie Hollow from Vinterbro in Ås municipality was just 12 years old when she released her first self-written song through Universal Music.
“I was very shy as a child, so the whole thing was rather out of character, but perhaps that also says something about the strong need to express myself that suddenly takes over everything else.”
Music has played the leading role in Emelie’s life. Over the fourteen years since writing her first song, she has made a name for herself with her exceptional musicianship, beautiful vocals – described by VG as “a cross between Marit Larsen and Robyn” – and deeply personal songs.
In recent years, Emelie Hollow has established herself as one of Norway’s most-streamed artists. Her intimate lyrics and distinctive voice have impressed both audiences and critics. In 2024, she was one of the artists featured on TV2’s hit series Hver Gang Vi Møtes, where she impressed critics and won the hearts of Norwegian audiences.
Emelie has collaborated with several major artists, including Alan Walker on ‘Lily’, which has now been streamed more than half a billion times. Her latest album received excellent reviews, and her music is streamed an average of 2.5 million times every month.
Now Emelie is ready with a new album.
“Through a mix of symbolism, powerful metaphors and honest accounts of the past few years, this project has become almost a therapeutic journey for me. When I suddenly lost my closest collaborators towards the end of 2024, it hit harder than I could have imagined. Instead of staying down, I did what I do best: I wrote.”
The album contains uncompromising and, at times, raw descriptions of what it feels like to be betrayed by someone you have trusted completely. These are songs to put on when you need to cry and process difficult emotions. They are reminders that life goes on, and that there are still moments to enjoy, even when everything feels difficult.
“The project ends with an uplifting wave of a song that marks the end of the toughest year of my life so far. This is an album for those who have experienced betrayal and injustice. For those who have lost someone. For those who have felt alone in something that hurts. You are allowed to cry, laugh, get angry, cry a little more – and hopefully be left with a sense of hope.”
