In February 2006, a debut mini-album by an artist named Erlend Ropstad was released. He sounded like a singer-songwriter, writing slightly melancholic songs in English – and many wondered: do we really need more of those?
That was twenty years ago, and as we enter February 2026, it marks the 20th anniversary of a true Norwegian music success story – an artist who today has developed a completely unique artistic expression. Very few, if any, master the art of writing rock in Norwegian with such quality, and both the press and Spellemann juries have consistently supported that claim.
Over the years, he has slowly built a loyal following across the country the old-fashioned way: by writing great songs that people connect with, and by playing countless concerts. In the course of these 20 years, he has performed more than a thousand times, and this winter he’ll add around forty more – with a solo tour covering nearly every county, from small towns to big cities.
