Evangelium is a new constellation initiated by Frode Gjerstad last autumn. The group features two electric guitars and saxophone/clarinet improvising together.
The idea is that the “good news” is freely improvised music that rises from nothing into a unified whole, where the instruments are almost indistinguishable from one another, merging into a higher unity.
Frode Gjerstad has worked with free improvisation for more than half a century and has performed with major figures such as John Stevens, Johnny Dyani, Derek Bailey, Hamid Drake, William Parker, Matt Shipp, Peter Brötzmann and Bobby Bradford, among others.
His own groups have included Detail, Circulasione Totale Orchestra and the Frode Gjerstad Trio.
Karl Bjorå has, over the past 10–12 years, established himself through bands such as Emmeluth's Amoeba, Yes Deer and Megalodon Collective, with releases and concerts around the world.
In his own band, only Bjorå’s compositions are performed, with a focus on pursuing a rich and distinctive sound. Modern jazz is infused with post-rock, folk music, Americana and touches of classical tradition.
Håvard Skaset is a recognised Norwegian guitarist within experimental music, known for his boundary-pushing style ranging from raw noise to virtuosic acoustic and electric playing. He has performed with the experimental rock band MoE, the noise duo Bluefaced People and the noise group Sult, as well as collaborating with international artists such as Fred Frith and Maja Ratkje.
Together with Guro Skumsnes Moe, he also runs Børsen Kulturhus, an artist-run cultural venue and studio in Tangen.
