Famous Debates in the Forest are not doing this because something needs to be proved. Not because the world needs yet another band.
They do it because their teenage conviction that rock is the best thing in the world is still intact.
Because there is still a very special joy in turning up an amplifier, stepping on a distortion pedal and feeling something happen.
Because they still believe that rock and community can save the world – or at least make it slightly less shit.
Since none of the members have listened to new music since 1997, the songs are rooted in that transitional era when nobody knew whether they were indie, hardcore or heavy.
They still can’t agree. They have few references in common. They would not make the basis of a quiz team in Martinique.
Famous Debates are four men with no need to pretend they are younger, angrier or more dangerous than they are. Four grumpy men. Little facial expression. Lots of noise.
Meeting in a room, turning everything up, making a racket and feeling part of something… They promise to show up. It will be loud, it will be hard, and if their fitness holds up, it will also be a decent length.
The music? Well. If there is a place somewhere between slow hardcore, soft punk and extroverted shoegaze, that is exactly where you will find Famous Debates.
Famous Debates are playing in support of Norwac. All proceeds from the concert will go to Norwac, which works to strengthen the ability of Palestinian and Norwegian organisations to create lasting development, rights and humanitarian support. For Famous Debates, it is a concrete way of giving their belief in community a meaningful purpose.
