Flor is an exploratory jazz band from Stavanger, led by composer and bandleader Marie Kvale Vikingstad.
The band celebrates the release of its debut EP, By Green, at Loftet at Tou. Blending electronic soundscapes with improvisation, Flor creates an atmospheric sound in which simple musical ideas unfold through timbre, interplay and presence.
Led by vocalist and songwriter Marie Kvale Vikingstad, the band moves between contemporary jazz, experimental pop and psychedelic indie.
Drawing inspiration from the dreamlike art rock of Broadcast, Blonde Redhead and Radiohead, alongside the storytelling vocal tradition of Cécile McLorin Salvant, Flor explores the meeting point between songwriting and improvisation. With coming-of-age themes running throughout, the lyrics circle around vulnerability, the absurd and the beautiful, creating a sound that is nostalgic, honest and energetic.
Formed at the jazz programme in Stavanger, the band consists of Marie Kvale Vikingstad (vocals and live electronics), Torbjørn Säll (synthesisers and keyboards), Jonas Nes (guitar and pedal steel) and Eirik Jarl Gjølme (drums).
