Children and the History of Sport
What does the history of sport look like when viewed through the lives of children? What does the history of children in Norway reveal when sport is used as a starting point?
Such an approach brings into focus children who achieved remarkable things in Norwegian towns throughout the 19th century. It also reveals that play cannot simply be associated with innocent fun. And perhaps it raises questions about whether children benefit from having not only rights, but also responsibilities and a role to play.
Do children benefit from being organised into structured activities at increasingly younger ages? Does play?
Join Skjeldal for a reflection on these questions, drawing on the book about the early history of organised sport for children in Norway, with some connections to modern times.
The event is part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Norwegian Children’s Museum.
The ticket also includes admission to the museum on the same day.
