Zum Hauptinhalt

In 1911, Julie Elisabeth Hoem dies at her old home in Nordnes. The record states: No relatives. Nothing left behind. Yet her life contains a whole world.

Based on Edvard Hoem's novel Husjomfru, the story of fiddler Lars Olsen Hoem's youngest daughter is brought to light. Julie Elisabeth was a proud and disturbing woman who lived in the midst of the transition between old and new times, before the welfare society took shape, and when a woman's life could easily disappear into thin air.

After her youth in Kristiansund, Julie Elisabeth worked most of her life as a housemaid for wealthy families in Bergen. She sat at the manor's table - but did she really belong there? The performance depicts how small choices, dreams of love and the longing for belonging can shape an entire life.

Teatret Vårt has previously brought Edvard Hoem's family history to the stage with Slåttekar i himmelen and Jordmor på jorda. Husjomfru is a warm and painful story about a woman who has long stood in the shadow of history, but who has been given her voice and place in the light by Hoem.

Anne Wiig tells her entire life's journey alone on stage - from the rocky cliffs of Kritiansund, to the quiet room where life is coming to an end in Bergen. A strong, vivid and intimately narrated theatrical experience where one voice contains an entire life.

Welcome to a warm, painful and extremely vivid performance about being seen, and about being remembered.
