After the murder of a young girl, Norwegian and Swedish police cooperate to find the killer. The story is set in Tromsø, where Stellan Skarsgård in the role of Jonas Engström hunts for the guilty party in a landscape without night. Suffering from severe sleep deprivation he makes a terrible mistake, and from that moment the hunt for the perpetrator turns into a hunt for Engström himself. Guilt and the constant light pursue him throughout the film, while the line between good and evil is gradually erased.
