Janove on tour with string quartet – a new musical direction in autumn 2026
In autumn 2026, Janove will perform a limited number of exclusive concerts with a string quartet. The tour visits eight of Norway’s leading concert halls in November and December, where he will present his songs in symphonic form for the first time. A local string quartet will join him in each city.
The project stems from an idea that has developed over several years and is now being realised on a larger scale. The arrangements have been written by Erlend Skomsvoll, Gisle Kverndokk, Erik Waldejer and Heine Røise, all established and highly regarded names with impressive credentials. Together, their different approaches bring variety, depth and new nuances to the music.
The repertoire draws from Janove’s entire catalogue, with the selection based on songs that suit the new format. The programme includes well-known favourites, songs never performed live before and brand-new material.
“I’m really looking forward to this. I’ve gone through my entire catalogue, the material from the symphonic and silent-theatre piece The Mute, as well as the Kaizer catalogue, to find the most interesting and exciting songs to perform in symphonic form,” says Janove Ottesen.
“It’s always magical when the songs are enhanced by strings, and many of my favourite songs become even more dramatic when they lean further into a cinematic and theatrical expression. It has been incredibly exciting to receive the arrangements, and I’m now looking forward to performing them together with the string quartets.”
A new single, “Min Melodi Blå”, will be released in connection with the tour, along with a double album released digitally and on vinyl. Janove – “The Collection” features a selection of favourite songs in band format on one record and piano releases on the other. Each record also includes an unreleased bonus track: “En Mester Og Hans Karakter” and “En Drøm”.
The tour will also feature artist OLIVER as Special Guest, performing his own cinematic piano compositions.
