Childhood shapes the lives of the characters in Lars Elling's novels long into adulthood. His novels Fyrstene av Finntjern (The Princes of Finntjern) and Nei, dette husker vi (No, We Remember This) won both widespread acclaim and a large readership.
In these books, Oslo and its surrounding areas during the 1970s and 1980s provide a richly imaginative backdrop to the childhood of the protagonist, Filip, and his group of friends. Lars Elling combines warmth, pain, nostalgia and an eye for the defining details in a way few contemporary Norwegian writers can match. This autumn, the third novel in the series will be published.
