Stavanger’s own Kitchen Orchestra invites you to its traditional, unconventional Christmas concert (featuring traditions we no longer remember, which is why we tend to invent new ones every year)!
After a long year filled with activity, during which the band has mostly focused on contemporary music, improvisation, and a little jazz, it is now time for a grand Christmas party at Folken.
Will there be pinnekjøtt? Will we blow up an organ on stage? Will Pål show up? Will the mayor come? Will anyone else come? Will we manage to locate all the members after a hectic year? Where is Nils Henrik’s red jacket? Is there room for an organ, umpteen drummers, two double bassists, a bunch of brass players, saxophonists, vocalists, guests, reindeer, pinnekjøtt, a refrigerator, a rapper (or was it ptarmigans?), and everything else? Will there even be any culture left in Stavanger in 2027, or is this the last concert the city’s population will get before all the artists move to Switzerland?
We promise to decorate the stage about as beautifully as a bachelor decorates for Christmas. We will dust off beloved guest artists and put them through a Christmas cleaning that, once again, consists of a mixture of pinnekjøtt steam, free jazz, contemporary music, Christmas music (recalled freely from memory), a dash of pop (?), and self-reflection.
For now, all guest artists remain secret.
