Kristian Kristensen has shaped the Norwegian pop scene for more than a decade with his remarkable vocal range and emotional intensity. With timeless hits such as “Kan du lære mæ” and “Du ga mæ viljestyrke”, as well as sold-out concert venues across the country, he has established himself as one of Norway’s most compelling performers.
Yet the artist felt a need to escape his familiar “Norwegian self”. The answer was a five-week stay in Los Angeles, driven by a desire to explore a new linguistic and musical landscape.
By putting aside the big productions and limiting himself to just an acoustic guitar, Kristensen found a new path into songwriting.
“By limiting myself to just one instrument, I found a new kind of freedom. It was about finding my way back to the heart of the performance,” says Kristensen.
Inspired by artists such as Adrianne Lenker and Bon Iver, he has embraced an organic and intimate sound. Many of the new lyrics were written after hours spent on a balcony in LA, where Norwegian was replaced by English to explore new nuances in his vocal expression.
Audiences can look forward to meeting an artist who both honours his musical history and now takes to the road with a combination of his biggest Norwegian hits and entirely new English-language material.
