The band, led by saxophonist and composer Lina Langendorf, has become a real phenomenon in the new Nordic jazz wave. Press and audience describe them as a band that “pushes the boundaries of jazz with raw rhythmic drive.”
This is music that hits both the body and the head. The sound mixes spiritual jazz, Afrobeat, psychedelic vibes and Ethio-jazz into something completely unique – always with a groove that refuses to let go. Songlines Magazine said it best: “This music moves your body and shakes your brain.”
On stage, Langendorf United is simply electric. Five of the Nordic countries’ most creative musicians merge into one big musical entity, full of energy, playfulness and emotion. After a previous concert in Norway, Svein Hammer wrote: “One of the best concerts ever… groovy jazz rooted in African rhythms with small drops of soul and rock.”
The debut album Yeahno Yowouw Land (2023) took both Scandinavia and the rest of the world by storm – sold-out concerts, Manifest Prize and international hype. Even legends like Mulatu Astatke have given Langendorf cred for her innovative take on Ethio-jazz.
