Many in the audience left with stars in their eyes after Polish bassist Kinga Głyk performed at Maijazz 2018. What talent, what virtuosity, what a communicator! It did not take long before people were asking when she would return. And now she is back!
Kinga began playing professionally at the age of 12. Her role models were bass phenomenon Jaco Pastorius, known from Weather Report, and Marcus Miller, Miles Davis’ partner and producer in the 1980s. Pastorius’ near-impossible lightning-fast lines and Miller’s elegant funk still echo in her playing. But she has long left the “talented student” phase behind and become a fully-fledged artist with her own style and ideas.
At just 20, she was invited on stage by Marcus Miller during a concert in Germany. Since then, she has released five studio albums with esteemed American collaborators in addition to top Polish fusion musicians. Snarky Puppy founder Michael League co-produced her latest album Real Life.
Kinga Głyk has also helped challenge the notion that instrumental jazz is a male domain and that the bass is an instrument only for Men with a capital M. She brings the bass to the forefront with confidence and musicality that captivates audiences and critics alike. Her concerts are energetic, inspiring and impressive. Kinga is a musician who must be experienced in real life.
Maijazz 2026 audiences can look forward to an electrifying reunion with Poland’s leading jazz and funk export.
