Maijazz will fill Stavanger with jazz and musical experiences from 5 to 8 May 2027. The festival has been held since 1989 and is the Stavanger region’s oldest festival and one of the region’s major, recurring cultural events.
Jazz from Stavanger and around the world
Over the years, Maijazz has presented a wide range of Norwegian and international artists, including Jan Garbarek, the Pat Metheny Group, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul and Dee Dee Bridgewater. The festival offers concerts at various venues in Stavanger, featuring both established names and emerging musical talents. Maijazz places great emphasis on providing excellent concert experiences and on finding the right venue for the music. During the festival, artists and audiences come together at concert venues of all sizes throughout the city.
Nurturing new musicians
The festival also places a strong focus on young musicians and the development of the regional music scene. Through initiatives such as Maijazz UNG and collaborations with the Bjergsted Jazz Ensemble at the University of Stavanger, Stavanger Cathedral School and the Bjergsted School of Culture, children, young people and students get the chance to meet professional musicians and take part on the festival stages.
