Young Talents Bjergsted Jazz are very happy to be visiting Mai:jazz again—one of the year’s fixed highlights! The four UtB bands promise it will be at least as enjoyable as last year. In addition, a group from the rhythmic jazz program will participate, an advanced course for students aged 11–13.
Young Talents Bjergsted is a regional talent program for music, run by Stavanger Cultural School and the University of Stavanger. The students are aged 12–19, and the program includes both a jazz and a classical department.
Mai:jazz UNG is a regional competence development initiative, a festival within the festival, dedicated to developing children’s and young people’s interest in improvisation and jazz music. Mai:jazz UNG is for a 4-year-old audience member, an 8-year-old who just got a trumpet, a 13-year-old who has been playing drums for a while, and an 18-year-old preparing for auditions to higher jazz education—and everyone in between. Mai:jazz UNG combines breadth and specialization, aiming to create attentive, open-minded people and musicians. Participants gain valuable, improvisation-related learning experiences and a strong foundation for future cultural engagement.
