A dynamic trio of wind, stone and water. Nagelhus Schia returns with a full-length performance featuring three works by star choreographer Damien Jalet!
With a portfolio that includes collaborations with artists such as Radiohead and Madonna, as well as filmmakers including Luca Guadagnino on Suspiria and Jacques Audiard on Emilia Pérez, Damien Jalet is one of the world’s most sought-after choreographers. Thrice, a brand-new performance in three acts, is living proof of why. Its combination of physical intensity, technical brilliance and poetic choreography that places the dancer at the centre has captivated audiences during its summer European tour, with sold-out venues and rave reviews.
The first part, Gusts, is accompanied by specially commissioned music by acclaimed saxophonist Bendik Giske. With an unpredictable flow, the dancers are swept around as if carried by the wind – a tribute to air and breath.
Médusées explores the Gorgon from Greek mythology – a figure who turns others to stone with her gaze. Three male dancers struggle against this petrification as they protect and are protected by one another. Three female dancers take on the roles of Gorgons, locked in an ever-shifting game of seeing and being seen.
The performance concludes with Brise-lames, a spectacular work set to an original composition by pianist Koki Nakano. Here, the dancers become part of a wave, moving in unison while battling against the forces raging around them.
An exciting performance you won't want to miss.
