A weekend exploring the musical, literary, and artistic avant-gardes of 1950s New York, commonly known as the New York School, is the first of Canta's three thematic encounters in 2026.

Throughout the weekend, visitors can: enjoy concerts, talks, readings, open rehearsals, and screenings participate in a variety of hands-on workshops visit a dedicated space for children and families with a range of activities see historic radio receivers and other technology from the period Friday, January 30 | 16:00–20:00 Vernissage Open-Form Lecture Concert (Else Olsen Storesund and guests) Saturday, January 31 | 11:00–20:00 Workshop and rendition concert conducted by Else Olsen Storesund in collaboration with Griegakademiet Children and Family Activity Space Art Workshop (Sara Ortega, Mexico) Prepared Piano Workshop Food Workshop Morse and Radio Transmission Demonstration (Bergen Krinkaster) Evening concert with music by Ornette Coleman (Inge Weatherhead Breistein, saxophone, and Stein Urheim, guitar)

Tickets are sold as day passes under a «pay what you can» model, so you can choose the price that suits you best. Options range from NOK 100 to 500, with a NOK 800 solidarity ticket available for those who wish to offer additional support. Children under 12 have free entry. The food workshop costs an additional NOK 50 per person (payable on site via Vipps).

An event by CANTA in collaboration with Litteraturhuset i Bergen, with the special participation of Norwegian pianist and composer Else Olsen Storesund and support from Bergen Kommune.
