Øivind Vabø is probably the most quintessentially Bergen hardanger fiddle player in the world. He grew up learning from his father, Finn Vabø, and carries on a city tradition where musical influences from different parts of Western Norway meet. Øivind Vabø recently released his first solo album, Arv, which has received great acclaim. He will be performing solo for us – and we can’t wait!
Folk tunes from Norway and the Arab world intertwine in a fascinating way when Khaled Habeeb and Astrid Garmo perform together. Khaled Habeeb, originally from Syria and now a proud Bergen resident, plays the oud – the enchanting lute found throughout the Middle East and North Africa – and has immersed himself in various forms of Norwegian folk music. Astrid Garmo, from Lom in Gudbrandsdalen, plays fiddle and hardanger fiddle and is well known from the band Pumpegris.
