The name Rigla comes from the dialect word riglafengje, which in the Sunnmøre region means “unsteady” or “wobbly”. It reflects the band’s balancing act between the fragile and the powerful, the traditional and the innovative.
With a unique line-up featuring vocals, fiddle, saxophone, synth, cello, drums and double bass, Rigla have created a sound of their own, where traditional music, jazz and singer-songwriter pop merge into something fresh and unpredictable. Together, they have found a distinctive musical nerve.
The band consists of young musicians from different parts of Norway, with backgrounds from several of the country’s music conservatoires.
Recently, Rigla have made their mark as P3’s Urørt Artist of the Month and on stages including Øyafestivalen in Oslo and Dokkhuset in Trondheim. This autumn, they released their debut album, Sendebud fra sandkassa.
