Fifty years on it still hits just as hard
Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) has never had anything handed to him. His days are spent collecting money for a loan shark in Philadelphia's slums, his evenings boxing in run-down halls. But Rocky has too big a heart for his profession, and he is hardly the city's most effective enforcer.
Then the world heavyweight champion challenges an unknown outsider to a fight as a PR stunt. Suddenly Rocky faces the chance he has never dared to dream of, and you cannot help but cheer him on every step of the way.
The film was an instant classic. The theme song still lives on in training montages around the world, and the steps in Philadelphia have become a place of pilgrimage for fans. Rocky is the story of an underdog who shows that it is not about winning, but about going the distance. Fifty years later it still hits just as hard.
