On Wednesday 25 February, Stavanger will experience a brand new musical encounter when French bassist/vocalist/composer Sélène Saint-Aimé visits the city for the first time with a concert at Spor 5!

With roots in Martinique and Ivory Coast, Saint-Aimé has created a unique musical expression. This is distinctive jazz from the other side of the globe, with Caribbean, West African and French cultures closely interwoven. The music feels both grounded and spiritual, timeless and modern. Sélène Saint-Aimé sings around the warm sound of the double bass, letting the music flow out, rhythmic and soaring, mysterious and beautiful – truly from another world. It is warm and tender, and feels important.

She has already made a strong international impression with her two critically acclaimed albums – Mare Undarum (2020), which earned her the Victoire du Jazz 2021 award as ‘Rising Star’, and Potomitan (2022). She has studied with jazz legends such as Ron Carter, Lonnie Plaxico and Steve Coleman. Sèlène Saint-Aimè works in several formats and with different line-ups, and she is coming to Stavanger with her exciting piano trio.

Line-up:

Sélène Saint-Aimé – bass/vocals

Xavier Belin – piano

Sonny Troupé – drums
