Kunsthall 3,14 is proud to present four summer exhibitions featuring artists who explore the mechanisms of power across geographies and histories: Shwan Dler Qaradaki (b. Slemani, Kurdistan), Mona Tahani (b. Tehran, Iran), and Ciara Phillips (b. Ottawa, Canada).
In the main hall, Shwan Dler Qaradaki's large-scale watercolours are on display. Through these works, we encounter narratives drawn from Qaradaki's upbringing in Iraqi Kurdistan and his journey as a refugee to Norway – stories shaped by fear, but also by survival. The paintings combine references to Western art history, Islamic miniature painting traditions, and Kurdish symbolism, moving between personal memories and collective traumas. The transparency and transience of watercolour reflect the fragility of memory, while also bearing witness to the systematic erasure of histories and lived experiences.
The works examine how power is exercised from a distance, while foregrounding different forms of resistance – poetry rising against systems that seek to control both bodies and narratives.
