The entertainment contest Siddis Brass takes place every autumn at Bjergsted Musikkpark, utilising venues such as Stavanger Konserthus, the Conservatoire of Music and the local Music School. Alongside the Norwegian National Championships in Bergen, Siddis Brass is regarded as one of the most important events for Norwegian brass bands.
The contest is normally held on the first Saturday in November. In 2026, Siddis Brass will be staged on Saturday 7 November.
Each competing brass band presents a self selected entertainment programme within a time frame of 18 to 24 minutes, depending on the section in which the band competes. Recordings from the event have on several occasions been broadcast by NRK and BBC. The winning bands qualify for the British competition Brass in Concert.
Since its inception in 1983, Siddis Brass has grown considerably. From 10 bands competing in a single section in its first year, the contest has expanded to include around 60 brass bands from across Norway, divided into five sections. A diverse adjudicating panel, comprising both experienced judges and emerging international figures, assesses the performances.
Since 2012, the contest has been held at Stavanger’s concert hall in Bjergsted. The modern facilities provide excellent conditions for both performers and audiences, while sponsors contribute attractive prizes. A dedicated and highly competent team has, over many years, ensured a high standard of organisation and further developed Siddis Brass into a major gathering point for the brass band community. The event has played a significant role in raising standards among Norwegian bands and in promoting new repertoire.
Siddis Brass continues its tradition of offering a full and varied musical weekend in Stavanger, featuring the contest itself, followed by a gala concert and Brass Vors, before the weekend concludes with Brass Night.
