Silent Night - Classical Christmas - The Song That Embraced the World

Atmospheric classical Christmas concert where soprano Marit Kristine Risnes, cellist Ilmari Hopkins, and Goedele Taveirne at the grand piano present the traditional and well-known Christmas songs in an acoustic format.

"Silent Night, Holy Night" by Franz Gruber, the song that has embraced generations and continues to touch hearts around the world, originated on Christmas Eve in a village in Austria in 1818, more than 200 years ago. The organ in St. Nicolaus was out of order, and to create atmosphere during the evening mass, organist Gruber composed a song that could be sung with a simple lute accompaniment. Thus, the premiere performance of the world's most famous Christmas song, Silent Night, took place on Christmas Eve in Oberndorf.

With Silent Night, Holy Night and its origins as a framework, the professional performers present an atmospheric program leading up to Christmas.

In 2026, the concert takes place for the 10th consecutive year and has become a well-known and cherished tradition for audiences and performers alike, where the "goosebump factor is high" (Sandnesposten).
