With their playful interplay and energetic presence, Bliss Quintet have quickly established themselves as an exciting emerging band on the Norwegian jazz scene. Dramatic and sentimental ballads, catchy fanfare-like horn riffs, complex rhythms and open harmonic landscapes are central themes in Bliss Quintet’s music.
All of this is preserved and brought to life through the band’s playful interaction and wild, energetic sense of the here and now, with elements of free improvisation in the tradition of acclaimed Nordic bands such as Atomic and Masqualero.
On 6 March, Bliss Quintet released their fourth album, In Motion, on Jazzland Recordings. The album finds the band in close interplay, with a nuanced sound in which new elements such as synthesisers and flutes have emerged. They maintain their distinctive, driving sound and raw energy, while also daring to take listeners into collectively exploratory passages. Stillness, repetition and strong motifs are given more space than on their previous releases. A sense of close musical connection is what defines Bliss Quintet.

The Skoddajazz concert series focuses on promoting original music under the jazz umbrella — music that exists in the space between genres.
Skoddajazz promises fresh concert experiences featuring both local and international artists, promoting a broad musical range to suit every taste.
The concert series was initiated and is organised by vocalist Erle Fonneland and drummer Frederic Broadhurst, with the aim of expanding and promoting the jazz scene in Stavanger.
