Zum Hauptinhalt

Sleep Locks the Bones is a sound work and collective experience that drifts between sleep and wakefulness. A small group of audience members is invited to lie in individual beds while a voice fills the room with streams of associations shifting between restlessness, dream scenarios, and reflections on the meaning of sleep. A stage text has been transformed into a sound piece where language, rhythm, stories, and dreams blend together in an enveloping scenic landscape that arises in the blurred space between interpretation of reality and dream.

Sleep can be a place of safety and restoration, where we let go and allow the subconscious and dreams to flow freely. At the same time, sleep also relates to its opposite: being unable to rest, trapped in a waking state where we continuously process ourselves and our surroundings.

Many of us wake up at night with our thoughts spinning. Much can interfere with our sleep, whether we’re high on life and work or troubled by past or ongoing events.

How can we allow ourselves simply to be, to let go of the constant grinding that interprets the world around us? Is that something everyone has the chance to do? There is always someone awake — out among people, at a theater, in an art hall, at an airport, at a party, or on a quiet road at night. Some of us remain awake even when we are alone and trying to sleep.
