Erik Løchen's debut film is considered a modernist classic. The film's artistic qualities are often compared to contemporary films from the French New Wave.
In 2011, Jakten was named the best Norwegian film of all time in connection with the 100th anniversary of Norwegian cinema. He directed only one other feature film, Motforestilling from 1972. Erik Løchen died in 1983.
