A concert spanning the elegant clarity of the Baroque and the warmth, virtuosity and depth of the Romantic era, featuring works by Bach, Tchaikovsky and Brahms.
The evening opens with Johann Sebastian Bach’s magnificent Orchestral Suite No. 3, known for its refined dance style and beautiful melodic lines. Pjotr Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme follows, a virtuosic and lyrical work for cello and orchestra. The soloist is Amalie Stalheim.
The concert concludes with Johannes Brahms’s Symphony No. 4, the composer’s final symphony. Here, powerful expression, melancholy and musical complexity come together in a work filled with both intensity and great beauty.
Jan Willem de Vriend conducts the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra throughout the evening’s programme, taking the audience from Bach’s elegant Baroque world, through Tchaikovsky’s Romantic cello music, to Brahms’s deeply personal symphonic expression.
