Experience chamber music up close as musicians from the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra come together for a new concert in the Kammerfest i Valen series. Here, the orchestra musicians select the repertoire themselves, presenting a programme offering great variety in instrumentation, expression and musical style.
The audience is invited to sit around the musicians on stage or in the choir balcony. The close proximity between performers and audience creates a unique connection with the music and makes the concert experience both personal and intimate.
The programme ranges from Francis Poulenc’s elegant and playful Sonata for Clarinet and Bassoon, performed by Ben Aldren and Alexandre Molina Solís, to the distinctive and rhythmic Dance of Wooden Sticks by Serbian composer Isidora Žebeljan. Una Maja Vagner and Dunja Bontek perform on violin, joined by James Herstatt on viola and additional musicians to be announced.
Ernst von Dohnányi’s Sextet for Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Clarinet and Horn, Op. 37, follows. The work combines the intimate interplay of chamber music with a rich and colourful sound world, performed by Ida Mo Schanche on piano, Małgorzata Chwastek on violin, Yauheniya Mazynskaya on viola, Ilmari Hopkins on cello, Ben Aldren on clarinet and Andrea Wensberg on horn.
The concert concludes with Wood Works, traditional Nordic folk music arranged by The Danish String Quartet. Melodies and rhythms from the folk tradition come together in an energetic and vibrant musical expression, performed by Sondre Fjose Sandberg and Harald Grimsrud on violin, Yauheniya Mazynskaya on viola and Jaakko Pulakka on cello.
A concert for anyone who wants to come close to both the musicians and the music, and experience chamber music in an intimate and personal setting.
