Experience a concert of powerful contrasts, virtuosity and vibrant orchestral colour as the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra presents works by Ivan Karabits, Sergei Prokofiev and Modest Mussorgsky.
The evening opens with Ivan Karabits’s Concerto for Orchestra No. 1 – A Musical Gift to Kyiv. The work offers a rich and varied orchestral language, with rhythmic energy, powerful sonorities and striking contrasts.
Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2 follows. Here, lyrical melodies, rhythmic drive and virtuosity come together in a work filled with both warmth and intensity. Daishin Kashimoto is the violin soloist and also appears as composer-in-residence with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra.
The concert concludes with Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. Inspired by a series of paintings and drawings by the artist Viktor Hartmann, the work takes the audience through a succession of musical pictures. The music moves between the playful, the mysterious and the grand, culminating in a powerful and monumental finale.
Kiril Karabits conducts the evening’s programme, bringing together three works with very different musical expressions – from Karabits’s energetic orchestral writing, through Prokofiev’s virtuosic violin concerto, to Mussorgsky’s vivid musical pictures.
