Bergen Live presents STEIN TORLEIF BJELLA
After glowing reviews and an album many describe as his best to date, Stein Torleif Bjella heads out on an autumn tour in 2026, with both new material and beloved classics in his luggage.
The fresh album Velkomen skodde has been met with rarely seen unanimous enthusiasm from the critics, with a number of top scores and descriptions of Bjella as one of our time's most important songwriters.
The record shows an artist who is continually developing. With warm impulses from Latin American traditions and contributions from international names such as Marc Ribot and Daniel Lanois, Bjella opens the door to a richer and more nuanced soundscape. In Dagens Næringsliv he was described as a "musical citizen of the world" – a description that fits well for this new chapter.
In recent years Bjella has reached a wider audience than ever before, not least following the success of Hver gang vi møtes. At the same time he has retained what makes him unique: the ability to portray the intimate, the quiet and the deeply human.
On stage he combines the contemplative with a warm and down-to-earth humour – a mix that hits both the heartstrings and the funny bone.
He is joined by his regular band with Eirik Øien (bass), Kenneth Kapstad (drums) and Geir Sundstøl (string instruments).
Together they lift the songs into dynamic and vivid concert experiences, where new material from Velkomen skodde stands side by side with the songs that have made Bjella a pioneering figure in Norwegian ballad art.
And true to tradition: a fruit basket is still raffled off during the concert.
