Hilde Marie Holsen is a Norwegian composer and musician working at the intersection of acoustic and electronic sound. Her music bridges contemporary music, jazz and experimental music, expanding the expressive possibilities of the trumpet through improvisation and electronic processing. By processing the trumpet with live electronics, she creates immersive compositions combining acoustic sounds, textures and ambient soundscapes.
Holsen has released three critically acclaimed solo albums – Ediacara (2023), Lazuli (2018) and Ask (2015) – on which she is the performer, composer and producer. She has performed at festivals and venues in Norway and internationally, including Sonic Acts (NL), Ultima, Oslo Jazz Festival, Borealis and Radio France, both as a solo artist and in collaboration with numerous leading musicians and ensembles.
In recent years, Holsen has also composed commissioned works for internationally acclaimed ensembles such as Ensemble Contrechamps (CH) and Ensemble Musikfabrik (DE), commissioned by organisations including Ultima, Borealis and inaGRM. Her solo album Ediacara was nominated for ‘Work of the Year 2025’ by the Norwegian Society of Composers.
On 15 October, Hilde Marie Holsen performs at Strømklang, presenting her distinctive combination of trumpet, electronics and atmospheric soundscapes.
Strømklang is a concert series for experimental electronic music in Stavanger, established in 2024. The series takes place at Folken and is curated by John Derek Bishop. Audiences can experience exciting concerts by Norwegian and international artists working with ambient, electronica and other exploratory musical forms.
The concert series is supported by the Norwegian Arts Council.
