Towards the end of last year, he also released the duo album “Play” with trumpeter Theo Croker. Fortner’s next full-length album, “Leave That in There”, is due for release during the summer.
Between album releases and award ceremonies, the Sullivan Fortner Trio has also performed at many of the major clubs and jazz festivals across Europe and the USA. Fortner is also a regular presence on stage as star accompanist to Cécile McLorin Salvant, and has worked closely with the late Roy Hargrove.
Both his solo playing and his interplay across the many different ensembles and collaborations confirm Fortner’s status as one of the leading jazz pianists of his generation.
The entire trio is first-class, however. Bassist Tyrone Allen II, from Maryland, has also performed with Teri-Lynne Carrington, Gerald Clayton, George Garzone, Jazzmeia Horn and Jerry Bergonzi. Drummer Kayvon Gordon was taken under the wing of legendary Detroit trumpeter Marcus Belgrave early in his career and has since shared the stage with Robert Hurst, Rodney Whitaker, Ravi Coltrane and JD Allen, among others.
It is a great pleasure to present this outstanding piano trio, and especially exciting to welcome Sullivan Fortner to Stavanger for the first time!
