Sunday Tour in the Public Realm
Although Stavanger Art Museum is currently closed, Stavanger Municipality has a large art collection displayed throughout the city. Stavanger Art Museum and Stavanger Municipality are therefore inviting the public to a series of Sunday tours exploring art in the public realm.
On Sunday 4 October, museum educator and PhD Andreas Wathne Røst will lead a tour exploring art as memorials and memorials as art. Røst wrote his doctoral thesis on the role of the arts at Norwegian sites of remembrance.
The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours. The route begins at Kyviksmarka, continues down towards the city centre, and ends at Vågen.
Along the way, participants will experience three works:
- Ti par sko (2024) by A.K. Dolven – a memorial to the Tjemsland resistance group.
- Snublestein (2013) by Gunter Demnig – a memorial to Norwegian Jews who lost their lives during the persecution of Jews in the Second World War.
- Indre og ytre landskap (2025) by Jone Kvie – a memorial to the wartime sailors from the Stavanger region.
The tour is free of charge, but a ticket must be reserved.
Meeting point: The Tjemsland Group Memorial (Ti par sko by A.K. Dolven), Kyviksmarka.
This tour will be conducted in Norwegian.
