Shipbuilding and Shipyard History in Norway
Shipbuilding and shipyard operations have historically played an important role in communities of all sizes along the Norwegian coast – culturally, socially and economically. The book Transitions – New Perspectives on Norwegian Shipyard History explores Norway’s shipbuilding industry, from the beginning of industrialisation around the mid-19th century through to the present day.
The articles in the book present what is already known about the development of the industry, while also contributing new knowledge and perspectives that broaden our understanding of individual shipyards and the industry as a whole.
Trond Holmen Erlien (1979) is a historian with a PhD and researcher at Bergen Maritime Museum / Museum Vest.
Eirik Holmen (1976) is a historian with a PhD and a teacher at Spjelkavik Upper Secondary School.
Eyvind Bagle (1967) is a historian with a PhD and Senior Curator NMF at the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History / Norwegian Maritime Museum.
