Tyngde (Gravity) is the story of a life shaped by resistance, and of how survival mechanisms may ease the burdens we carry.
The project is an interdisciplinary encounter between the text Tyngde by Demian Vitanza, butoh dance and punk music. The performance is produced by Agder Nye Teater and directed by Magnus Sparsaas.
The text emerges from conversations between playwright Demian Vitanza and actor Terje Strømdahl. Vitanza explains:
“When I got to know him, he had recently lost his husband. I heard stories about this man’s struggles throughout life – with illness, bullying, and seeking refuge in a religion that did not allow him to live out his sexual identity. But there was also comfort there, this time in the realm of plants. Perhaps one sometimes has to move away from the human in order to be human.”
Demian Vitanza was awarded the Ibsen Prize for his work on Tyngde.
