What does it mean to be strangers to one another, and how do we move from being strangers to becoming something else?
In Arne Lygre’s brand-new play, strangers meet around a newly installed art installation, far out in nature. Conversations unfold, and these chance encounters stand in sharp contrast to the ones they have had with their loved ones. In a precise and poetic universe, new relationships are reflected in the old.
Arne Lygre is one of the foremost contemporary playwrights. In addition to winning the Ibsen Award twice, he has also received two Hedda Awards. In 2024, he was awarded the Telenor Culture Prize and the Dobloug Prize, and he was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize.
To direct this world premiere, Stéphane Braunschweig—one of France’s most distinguished directors—has been brought in. He has also directed six of Lygre’s plays in France.
Be a Stranger to me is a collaboration between Den Nationale Scene in Bergen and the Bergen International Festival.
