Ved Bordet (At the table) is a unique collaborative exhibition between Norwegian glass artists and the renowned American artist Beth Lipman.
Throughout the summer and autumn, artists from across Norway have participated in an artistic relay reminiscent of the game "telephone." Each artist received a photograph of a transparent glass object made by another participant — without name, explanation, or context. They were invited to interpret and translate the object further, not as a technical exercise, but as a personal response to its form and expression. This process was repeated several times, with each new work building upon the previous one in a chain of visual interpretations.
All the resulting objects now come together in a collective installation at S12, curated by Beth Lipman. The outcome is a table covered with objects that each represent an artist's presence, absence, and interpretation — a collective conversation in glass. Alongside this installation, another sculpture is presented, composed of donated objects in glass, ceramic, and stoneware that have been cut, reshaped, and fused together into the form of a table.
Beth Lipman is internationally recognized for her sculptural glass works inspired by the European still life tradition of the 16th and 17th centuries. Her practice revolves around themes such as material culture, transience, and the human condition. She has played an important role in the development of glass art internationally and has extensive experience with collaborative creative processes.
The exhibition is supported by Norske Kunsthåndverkere (the Norwegian Association for Craft Artists) and Vestland County.
