Storhaug poet Velan releases album about the neighbourhood
“This neighbourhood has transformed my life, and it had to become music,” says the artist. On Friday, 17 April, Velan will release his fifth album, «Å hørra te». The album is entirely about Storhaug – a district where beautiful nature meets urban life, where neighbours become friends, and community is more than just a word.
The album release will be celebrated with a concert at the Literature House in Stavanger on Thursday, 30 April. Velan will perform the album in its entirety with acoustic guitar and vocals, along with selected songs from previous releases. The audience can expect warm ballads, gentle humour, and above all, a strong sense of community.
Velan (Olav Veland Thu) has received high praise in Stavanger Aftenblad on multiple occasions. The lyrics for «Å hørra te» were written with support from the Lyricists’ Fund, reflecting quality and genuine craftsmanship. Several tracks have been featured on editorial Spotify playlists, and the song «Nesten aldri» was listed on NRK P1 Rogaland.
“I really love this neighbourhood, but the album doesn’t only focus on the good parts. I’ve tried to give a nuanced picture of the district, and I think many will recognise themselves, no matter where they come from,” says Velan.
“An artist of the kind I wish all possible success for, but secretly want all to myself,” wrote music journalist Geir Flatøe in Stavanger Aftenblad.
