In Fjærland, about 30 minutes' drive from Sogndal, you can experience Bøyabreen Glacier, which is an arm of the mighty Jostedalsbreen Glacier. You can see Bøyabreen Glacier up close from the road. Bøyabreen Glacier is steep and prone to ice erosion and has its highest point above 1,700 meters above sea level. and lowest point approx. 600 m.
When you're at the Norwegian Glacier Museum in Fjærland, you barely make eye contact with him. After less than five minutes by car, you will have the glacier up close, and if you're lucky you can see the glacier calving.
Bøyabreen talks to you all the time. He tells how the glacier is doing. Does he grow or shrink? Here it is easy to follow because the signals are so easy to spot. Bøyabreen is like a glacier barometer for God and every man who travels by. If you take the time to learn about the glacier at the Glacier Museum before heading up there, you will understand more and see more of the signals the glacier sends when it speaks to you.
