Geiterygghytta - Mountain Cabin at Skarvheimen

Geiterygghytta is situated at an elevation of 1,224 meters, where the mighty nature of Western Norway meets the high mountain landscapes of Eastern Norway.

The cabin is located in the heart of Skarvheimen and connects the cabins and hiking routes in the area. On one side, Geiterygghytta is a popular starting point for the hike down the wild and beautiful Aurlandsdalen valley, and on the other, it serves as a gateway to the majestic Hallingskarvet mountain range.

Hikes around Geiterygghytta

The cabin is a hub for the marked hiking routes in Skarvheimen, offering great mountain hikes from other staffed cabins such as Finsehytta, Iungsdalshytta, Aurlandsdalen Tourist Cabin, Østerbø Fjellstove, Steinbergdalshytta, and Storestølen Fjellhotell, as well as from self-service cabins like Kongshelleren and Hallingskeid.

Geiterygghytta is also easily accessible, with only a 3 km walk along a gravel road or a ski tour from County Road 50 between Hol and Aurland—a trip suitable for both adults and children.

There are many varied day hikes from the cabin.

Popular winter day-trip destinations include Bakkahellertunga, Lordehytta, Ja-benken, and Kyrkjedøri. In summer, the cabin is an excellent starting point for the hike down Aurlandsdalen, and other destinations include Godfjell and Skarvatjørnane, Kittilsbunosi, the Varge glaciers and Vargevatnet, Geiteryggen, and Stemmerdalen.
