Halne Fjellstugu is situated at 1,140 metres above sea level at Lake Halnefjorden and close to Hardangervidda National Park.  Stop by for a meal or an overnight stay while crossing the Hardangervidda mountain plateau along route 7. Homemade traditional food based on local produce is served in the café. There are 75 beds available in single and double rooms in the main building, and in apartments and cabins. Halne Fjellstugu is open from the early winter period, and closes in the beginning of October. It is an ideal starting point for trekking in the summer and ski touring during the winter. During the summer there is a scheduled daily boat service on Lake Halnefjorden from Halne to Sleipa and Skaupa, about 13 km from Halne. The boat Halnekongen takes 37 passengers, and the tour from Halne to Sleipa takes about 40 minutes. Taking the boat from Halne and back again is a nice cruise, and may also be the start for a longer trekking tour into Hardangervidda National Park. When travelling to Halne Fjellstugu, there are several options. By car or by bus along route 7 from Eidfjord or Geilo, or by train to Haugastøl or Ustaoset. When travelling by train, please ask the management at Halne Fjellstugu in advance for a possible pick up at the train station. Halne Fjellstugu is also available for groups on request outside the ordinary season.
