Originally the cabin was located at Røv in Surnadal, and was built in the 1950s, then as a sauna. In the middle of the 70s, Hermann Sande bought the cabin and moved it to its present location. The main house is the old sauna, while the annexe is new, built on the old walls of the outhouse.

Hermannhytta is a nice starting point for day trips to Grytbakksetra or Vindølbu. Total amount of beds: 13. The cabin is self-serviced and open all year.
