Look into the schoolyard. You see him searching for his gym bag in the bin. And her running so fast that her lunch box falls out of her bag. What you don't notice is the eleven-year-old girl doing gymnastics on the climbing frame, just before the sun fills the whole playground.
What responsibilities do adults have?
What catches your eye? What responsibility do you have to understand what you see? The eleven-year-old girl dies. How could this happen? And how do we take care of our children?
In 11 YEARS, a young teacher experiences one of his students, an eleven-year-old girl, taking her own life. Now he has to meet with the girl's parents and the school principal. In his bag, he has something he forgot to mention.
The audience is witness
In preparation for 11 YEARS, Goksøyr & Martens interviewed parents, children, researchers, lawyers and school staff. The story takes place in a schoolyard. The audience watches the actions of thirty children and seven adult actors from an amphitheatre. A headset for each viewer conveys events and conversations from one of the classrooms at the school.
